This notice explains how personal data is handled when you useFermiLabs.it. It is intended to provide the information required by Articles 12 and 13 of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR) and the applicable Italian privacy and cookie rules.

1. Data controller and site manager

The data controller for FermiLabs.it isAldo Finocchiaro, who is also the adult site manager for privacy and website-administration matters.

Privacy requests and website-related legal communications can be sent tofermilabs.it@gmail.com.

FermiLabs is presented on this website as an independent personal engineering, research and education initiative. The technical authorship of individual projects may belong to different contributors and repositories; this does not change the privacy contact above.

2. Data we may process

• Technical and security data:IP address, date and time, requested resource, HTTP status, browser/user-agent information, security events and similar server or firewall logs generated when the site is accessed.
• Communications:your name, email address and any information you voluntarily include when you contact us.
• Account and learning data:if account or learning functions are used, WordPress/LearnPress may process account identifiers, enrolment information and learning progress. Public self-registration is currently disabled, although historical account and learning records may still exist in the installation.
• Preferences and browser storage:technical cookies or local preferences needed for sessions, security, consent state, language or functionality.
• Optional third-party feature data:when you deliberately activate or follow a third-party feature, that provider may receive technical connection data such as your IP address and browser information.

3. Purposes and legal bases

• Delivering the website and requested functionality:processing necessary to provide the page or feature you requested and, where applicable, to take steps at your request.
• Security, abuse prevention and technical reliability:legitimate interests in protecting the website, infrastructure and users, including logging, troubleshooting, backup and fraud/attack prevention.
• Answering messages and collaboration enquiries:processing necessary to respond to your request and, depending on the context, legitimate interests in managing communications or steps requested before a possible collaboration.
• Legal obligations and defence of rights:processing necessary to comply with applicable law or to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
• Optional non-essential tracking or third-party functionality:consent, where consent is required by the GDPR and Article 122 of the Italian Privacy Code. Refusing optional consent does not prevent access to the ordinary public content of the site.

4. Cookies and other tracking tools

The site may usetechnical cookiesand equivalent storage that is strictly necessary for WordPress sessions, security, cache operation, language/function preferences and recording cookie choices. These do not require prior consent when they are strictly necessary, but they are described in this notice.

FermiLabs does not use behavioural advertising as part of its own site design. Optional plugins or third-party services must not place non-technical cookies or use non-essential tracking before the required consent has been obtained. Where the cookie-preferences interface is shown, you can use it to accept, refuse or later change optional choices.

If only technical cookies are active for a visit, no consent is required merely to continue browsing. If optional analytics, profiling or other non-technical tracking is enabled in the future, it must remain off by default until a valid choice is made.

5. Third-party services and external content

The site can contain links or optional functionality involving third parties such asYouTube/Google, GTranslate, GitHub, LinkedIn, Arduino, Dewesoft and PayPal. A normal external link does not itself mean that FermiLabs controls the third party’s subsequent processing. Embedded or interactive functionality can result in a connection to the provider when it is loaded or activated. Those providers process data under their own privacy terms and may act as independent controllers for their services.

Where a third-party feature is not necessary for the requested page and requires consent under applicable cookie/tracking rules, it should be activated only after the relevant choice. We periodically review the installed services because plugin and provider behaviour can change.

6. Hosting, processors and recipients

Website data may be processed by technical suppliers that are necessary to host, secure, back up or administer the site, including the hosting provider and WordPress-related service providers. Access is limited to what is needed for their role. Other recipients may receive data when required by law or when you intentionally use an external service.

7. Transfers outside the EEA

Some optional third-party providers are established or operate infrastructure outside the European Economic Area. Where personal data is transferred internationally, the relevant provider or controller must rely on an applicable GDPR transfer mechanism, such as an adequacy decision or appropriate safeguards. The provider’s current privacy documentation contains the most specific information about its transfer arrangements.

8. Retention

Data is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected and for applicable security, backup, legal or defence requirements. Technical logs are kept according to hosting and security configuration; correspondence is kept while it is useful to handle the request and any necessary follow-up; account/learning records are reviewed according to the continued need for the relevant service. When a specific legal retention period applies, that period prevails.

9. Children and young users

FermiLabs publishes educational material that can be useful to young people, but ordinary public browsing does not require a user account. If a future service is offered directly to minors and relies on consent as its legal basis, Italian law allows a minor who has reached the age of 14 to consent to that data processing; below 14, consent must be given or authorised by the person exercising parental responsibility. Information aimed at minors must be written in especially clear and simple language.

10. Your GDPR rights

Where the GDPR applies, you may request access to your personal data, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability where applicable, or object to processing based on legitimate interests. Where processing relies on consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.

11. Security and changes to this notice

Reasonable technical and organisational measures are used to protect the site and its data. No Internet service can guarantee absolute security. This notice will be updated when the site’s purposes, data flows, third-party services or applicable legal requirements materially change; the date at the top identifies the current version.
